Bialetti X Dolce&Gabbana Blue Mediterranean Moka Express

A collaboration between two celebrated names in Italian design. Bialetti and Dolce & Gabbana have joined forces on this special edition Moka pot, with a pattern, on both the coffee maker and its gift box, drawn from traditional majolica tilework. Made in Italy throughout, it pairs classic blue and white tones that call to mind the Mediterranean coastline.

Bialetti changed the way Italians (and eventually the world) brewed coffee at home when the original Moka Express launched in 1933. Nearly a century on, it remains a kitchen staple, and has earned a place in design and science museum collections around the globe. Simple to use and built to last, it turns ground coffee into rich, espresso style cups full of flavour.

Brewing with a Moka pot

New to stovetop coffee? It takes a little practice, but the method is straightforward once you've done it a few times:

  • Grind the coffee. A fresh, fine to medium grind gives the best results.
  • Fill with water. Add water to the bottom chamber, up to the internal valve line.
  • Add the filter basket and coffee. Fit the basket in place and fill it with ground coffee, levelling it off without pressing down.
  • Assemble the pot. Screw the top and bottom chambers together firmly.
  • Brew. Place on a low to medium heat with the lid open and the handle turned away from the flame; the coffee will begin to rise into the top chamber.
  • Serve. Once the bubbling sound stops, take it off the heat and pour.

A brewing tip: keep the heat moderate throughout. Too high, and the coffee can turn bitter. Take the pot off the hob as soon as you hear a hissing or gurgling sound, or notice paler steam, a sign the water's run through and the coffee could otherwise start to taste scorched.
