Alessi Moka - Espresso Coffee Machine - DC06 Grey Handle

A coffee maker with a familiar and at the same time innovative form. Designed by architect David Chipperfield, Moka is an artist's interpretation of a timeless icon of the Italian culture. Chipperfield introduces a series of details that make the Moka design new and even more functional, such as the flat lid on which to place the cups to be heated - allowing optimum enjoyment of the aroma and flavour of the drink. For those who don't want to compromise on the unmistakeable taste of coffee prepared with an espresso coffee maker.

"What does redesigning the Moka mean, maybe just improving what it already is?" David Chipperfield started from this question to develop his design, with a desire to design a popular, simple and familiar object just like the first espresso maker invented in the early 1900s by Alfonso Bialetti, Alberto Alessi's maternal grandfather. A tribute that is enriched with innovative formal and functional solutions, starting with the eleven-sided body, passing through the anti-drip spout to arrive at the particularly convenient and practical knob and handle.

Sir David Chipperfield, British, was born in 1953 in London. David Chipperfield Architects was established in 1984 and the practice has won numerous national and international competitions. In 2004 he was made an Honorary Member of the Florence Academy of Art and Design. He was appointed Royal Designer for Industry in 2006 and in 2009 was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and in the UK New Year Honours 2010 was named Knight Bachelor for services to architecture in the UK and Germany. He received the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture in 2011. He has taught and lectured worldwide and is currently an Honorary Professor at the University of the Arts London.
