Andean Sisters - Peru

Premium Single Origin

Description

Coffee Bay's Andean Sisters, from Café Femenino Peru, carries a story as rich as its flavour. In 2004, 464 Peruvian women farmers united with OPTCO to launch the world's first women-produced coffee market, sparking the global Café Femenino® movement now supporting thousands of women across nine countries through direct ownership, trade, and community development. Despite facing discrimination and limited resources, these women built confidence, leadership, and lasting change. In the cup, expect a smooth, medium-bodied Peruvian coffee with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, and red apple, balanced by a soft, mellow acidity.

Andean Sisters - Peru

Premium Single Origin

A Coffee with Purpose. A Movement for Change.

Coffee Bay is proud to introduce Andean Sisters from Café Femenino Peru, an exceptional specialty coffee that represents far more than outstanding flavour. It is the result of a remarkable movement that has transformed the lives of women coffee producers and their communities.

For generations, women played a vital role in coffee production across Peru, yet economic control and recognition largely remained in the hands of men. In 2004, a pioneering group of 464 female coffee farmers came together with a shared vision: to create their own identity within the coffee industry and gain a stronger voice in their communities. Working alongside OPTCO, they established a groundbreaking, women-produced coffee market that had never existed before.

What began as a bold step towards equality has grown into the global Café Femenino® movement, now supporting thousands of women farmers across nine countries. By creating opportunities for women to own, market, and benefit directly from their coffee, the programme has become a powerful vehicle for social change, economic independence, and community development.

Since that first meeting in 2004, the women of the Café Femenino Peru Program have overcome significant social and economic challenges. Facing gender discrimination, difficult living conditions, and the barriers created by limited access to formal education, they have successfully challenged generations of inequality. Their determination has brought greater confidence, stronger leadership, and meaningful change to their families and communities.

In every cup of Coffee Bay Café Femenino Peru, you'll discover not only a beautifully crafted Peruvian coffee, but also the inspiring story of women creating a brighter future through coffee.
